Melaina has deep roots in the community and in real estate. A 12-year graduate of Ashley Hall School in Charleston, she attended Emory University and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA in Art History (emphasis in Architecture). After her freshman year, her father (a retired Navy officer turned Realtor) encouraged her to sit for the SC Real Estate exam, and she sold her first house at the age of 19! After that, Melaina was hooked. She joined her father’s Real Estate firm, which had just been relocated to an un-restored storefront in Wraggborough. This move from an office on Broad Street to what was then considered the “frontier” above Calhoun Street began Melaina’s love for restoration property.
Melaina has been involved for many years with various local organizations and boards. She was President of the Board of the Charleston Trident MLS (Multiple Listing Service) and served on the Professional Standards Committee for the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors. She has been a Board Member of the Preservation Society of Charleston, Ashley Hall Alumnae Association, and the Women’s Council of the Gibbes Museum of Art. She is currently a member of the Preservation Society, South Carolina Historical Society, the Charleston Museum, DAR, and Gibbes Museum of Art, and is active with her sorority, Delta Delta Delta.
